Youth Award for Innovation 2009-11-01 Youth Award for Innovation

The Royal Society of Arts (London Region)

In collaboration with Kidscount

Youth Award for Innovation

Terms and conditions for 2010

1.          The London Region of the RSA announces that it is setting aside the sum of £5,000, to make five awards for a proposed initiative in provision in any area of London, for the benefit of young people aged between 12 and 18.

2.       The RSA (London Region) remains the donor, but collaborates with KidsCount in the assessment for these awards.

3.       Entries must be submitted on the pre-supplied application form (available from the Administrator) and sent to youthrsalondon@thevirtualpartnership.co.uk

They must state clearly the aims and objectives of the proposal, and should explain in detail how monies would be spent if they were awarded. Due regard will be given to practical considerations and to correct administration of funds.  The London Region committee may ask to interview proposers or seek clarification of plans, if it thinks fit. If asked, the awarders will offer to give a short evaluation of each entry, whatever its success.

4.       It is expected that proposals will be planned and written by small groups of young people in consultation with adults. Names should be attached to the proposal with an indication of provenance, such as a charity, a school, or a youth organisation. The funding, if made available, is intended to support a specific project which may concern activities, expert support, facilities or any other reasonable category.

5.       The awarders will be especially interested in proposals which utilise the award for seed-corn purposes, which have some longer term durability, and which are properly inclusive of all young people in a given area of London. It is expected that the proposed project will have a reasonable timescale for its fulfillment.

6.       Each entry must be endorsed by a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. If a group of young people, or their advisors, has difficulty in identifying a Fellow, the London Region will use its best offices to help them.

7.       The judges for this Award will be Fellows of the Royal Society of Arts, who are members of the Committee for the London Region or its nominees, or representatives of Kids Count. The judges’ decision will be final. If the judges decide to make an Award, they may, at their discretion, arrange for advisory support or other direction in the furtherance of the accepted proposal. Monies will be paid over only when the judges are satisfied that expenditure will be correctly administered.

8.       The final date for submission will be Monday, 2nd February 2010.  All other factors being equal, the judges’ decision will be made by late February 2010 and a formal presentation will take place on Wednesday 10th March 2010, at a venue to be confirmed.

9.       In furtherance of its aim to foster improved provision for youth in London, the London Region of the RSA reserves to right to adapt these provisions as may seem necessary in the light of experience.

Anthony Earl FRSA (for the London Committee)          Linda Lawrence FRSA (for Kids Count)
